Bioenergy Europe’s Board meets in Tallin, Estonia

Bioenergy Europe’s Board meets in Tallin, Estonia

This week, Bioenergy Europe’s Board members and Secretariat met in Tallin, Estonia to discuss key policy files for the Bioenergy Sector. The meeting was also an opportunity to visit Graanul Invest’s facilities in Imavere.

During the Board on Tuesday, Board members and Staff brainstormed on key files for the sector:

  •  LULUCF and analysis of forest capture rates
  • Future prospects and role of active forest management
  • Role of bioenergy in the upcoming bioeconomy strategy

On the same day, Bioenergy Europe’s members joined the online General Assembly to review the discussed topics and approve the budget.

On Monday, Bioenergy Europe’s Board members visited Graanul Invest’s Imavere Pellet Plant.

One of the oldest’s plants of Graanul Invest, operating since 2005, Imavare features now a production capacity of around 350,000 tons of industrial and premium pellets, making it one of the largest such units in Europe. Imavere features also a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant that uses bark and other low quality biomass fractions, meaning that only renewable electricity and heat is used for the pellet production process.

It was a great opportunity to visit an advanced pellet production facility and getting to know more about the practices and processes that contribute to sustainable production of wood pellets.
