As the heating season comes to an end, Bioenergy Europe members gathered online for the regular meeting of the Working Group Pellets to review the latest developments in the pellet market. The Working Group discussed key trends in both the industrial and residential sectors, with a focus on case studies from the Netherlands and Poland. Given the many challenges and uncertainties affecting the market, Bioenergy Europe closely monitors developments to provide timely insights to its members and support informed decision-making.
The broader energy market was particularly volatile between 2022 and 2023 and has significantly impacted pellet pricing; however, pellet prices have now mostly stabilized. At the same time, an unpredictable regulatory framework has created uncertainty, making long-term planning difficult for producers and consumers. Recent trends in coal, natural gas, and electricity prices have also played a role in shaping the pellet market. The meeting discussions covered the global market with a focus on the EU, Asia and the U.S.
Looking ahead, several factors are expected to shape the pellet market. Boiler sales remain weak except in countries with a stable regulatory framework and favorable subsidy schemes. Like other heating solutions, pellet appliances are also affected by the overall economic conditions and frequent changes in support schemes.
By closely following these developments, Bioenergy Europe continues to offer valuable insights to help industry players navigate the evolving pellet market. For more information on the Working Groups, please contact us.
