Today, we’re delighted to sit down with Mara Maurite, Head of Export at BONO Group – a key player in timber products across the Baltics.
1) Mara, why is BONO Group based in the Baltic Sea Region?
The Baltic Sea region offers us access to some of the most important export markets in Scandinavia, Europe, and beyond. Specifically, we’ve rooted ourselves in Latvia, a country that ranks among Europe’s leaders in forestland. For a timber-driven business like ours, that’s an unbeatable location.

We add value to locally sourced timber at every stage – from forest management and timber processing to constructing sustainable CLT (cross-laminated timber) homes. Our core activities centre around roundwood and biomass trade, along with providing end-to-end supply chain logistics
3) And you? What do you do?

Absolutely. Over the past 12 years, BONO Group has risen to become an industry leader in the Baltics by: continuously implementing innovative material sourcing practices; creating job opportunities for locals; providing certified, locally sourced timber energy materials, and choosing partners with whom our values of continuous growth align. We can provide diverse supply chain solutions starting with sustainable material sourcing and ending it with complex deliveries to our customer site, considering EU and National level legislation and certification requirements.
7) What inspired you to join Bioenergy Europe? How does it help your mission?
Our decision was rooted in a strong belief in renewable energy and sustainability. Bioenergy is key to Europe’s transition to cleaner energy, and we wanted to be at the forefront of that change. Joining Bioenergy Europe opened doors for us to collaborate with other industry leaders, help shape policy, and drive innovation in the bioenergy space. It was a natural step for us, and we’re committed to being long-term contributors.
8) What’s next for BONO Group?
We’re charting a path to expand our product range and explore new markets.
